The universe works in mysterious ways. One day I was trying to eke out vegetables from a garden plot at Palos Verdes High School in view of the ocean (not the best place for a vegetable garden) and then I was creating an oasis in the middle of the Valmonte neighborhood in Palos Verdes Estates. The journey has been long but it has just begun. I now have a good support system of specialists that will pull this farm together into a sustainable model.
What we’ve accomplished:
1.
The PVPUSD Transition to Independence class (TTI) led by Tara Swall, cleared the space of logs and tons of debris. they then dug irrigation trenches in the hard soil and helped install 500 ft of 1.5 in PVC and 500 ft of 1'“ PVC pipe to provide water to our dusty farm.
2.
Valmonte Farm & Garden was created in 2018. This non profit came into being to be better able to keep a safe, pleasing environment for:
1st - PVPUSD students
2nd - the community
We anticipate more educational opportunities for all age groups in the near future.
